Robert Kimbrough

Come ride the Blues with Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection.

The music is in his blood.

!Robert Malone b.1968 Holly Springs, Mississippi) Lead by Robert Kimbrough, Sr., the youngest son of Northern Mississippi Blues legend Junior Kimbrough, BluesConnection pays tribute to the great music of Robert’s late father. The band’s hypnotic sound is a melodic combination of traditional cotton patch blues, post-electric 60’s jams with smooth, soulful vocals. Steeped in the Blues his whole life, Robert began playing guitar at age five. He learned to play all night alongside his father, Junior (The Original Soul Blues Boy), and his brothers, David and Kinney, at house parties and picnics. In 1995 Robert joined his father and brothers at “Junior’s Place”, an infamous juke joint in Chulahoma, MS, where he played regularly until 2000, when the club closed due to a fire.

Robert Kimbrough, Sr. sought a well-seasoned bunch of extraordinary local players from the hills of Mississippi when forming BluesConnection in 2008. Featuring James “G-Cutter” Hall on lead guitar, the dapper Artumus LeSueur on bass and Jason Wilber on drums. Each was schooled in the discipline of electric Gospel and R&B, and Robert has connected their souls to the Blues.

Robert and his wife, Shirlean, host evenings at a club in Holly Springs called The Hut, where live music is played weekly. Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection is the house band at the Hut. Many local players stop in, sit down and jam with the band. Brothers David and Kinney are frequent guests. Other local Blues players, such as Lightnin’ Malcolm, Duwayne Burnside, Lil’ Joe Ayers, Cedric Burnside, and many other musicians from around the world, have played the Hut.

Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection has also shared the stage with a slew of luminaries of the Mississippi Blues tradition. For many years now BluesConnection has performed at Kenny Brown’s North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic in Waterford, The Juke Joint Festival and Cat Head Delta Blues Festival in Clarksdale, just to name a few.

Robert Kimbrough, Sr. BluesConnection has four self-released CD titles available.
