Lee Yankie has been singing and playing guitar since 2004 in the southeast. He has been writing and performing his own material, as well as covers. He currently resides in Gulf Shores, Al. His first encantation of Lee & The Hellz Yeah, consisted of a power trio complemented by two horns. This bands personnel had Lee On guitar/vocals, Winter Banes on drums, Derek Jones on bass, Jermaine English on trumpet, and Tony Craig on Sax. The band recorded an album in 2007, but due to studio issues the album was never properly finished. The band subsequently went their own ways doing various projects. Some of these raw tracks from this album can be heard on myspace. Lee has lately been playing the local scene as a solo act and with his trio, still, Lee & The Hellz Yeah! This trio has been Dory Hornsby on drums and Derek Jones on bass since 2009. At the moment Lee is working on a new solo record “The Leavin’ Sound”. This album is a departure from the bands live shows that are a blend of electric blues rock and soul funk. Still, Dory and Derek were the perfect musicians for this project. “The Leavin’ Sound” is influenced by Lee’s acoustic solo work. Derek Jones primarily plays upright bass and Dory plays a mellow drum kit as well as some percussion. The combination of the three, as well as keyboard contributions from the renown Chris Spies, creates a down home sound with plenty of Lee’s signature slide guitar work. This album has tinges of everything from blues rock to downhome gospel r&b and what some might call soulful country. Lee has also called on his old friends Jermaine English and Tony Craig for vocal and horn contributions to this album. “The Leavin’ Sound” is set to be released just prior to the summer of 2011. This year, the band is also planning to do some shows bringing Jermaine and Tony back in to the mix for what will surely be some explosive shows.
