John Branch

Change. Undeniable yet inexplicable change. To follow any of the musical paths taken by John Branch, you would not expect to arrive at the sonic landscape of his new EP, Walk, Don’t Run. He has studied, and learned, and matured, and…changed.

“I feel like I’ve seen you before, you look very familiar.”

The years of practice in his childhood Fort Worth home on his father’s guitar have led hi

m to gigs all over the country. You may HAVE seen him on some stage, some random night, in some town, some days/weeks/years ago.

“I’ve never heard anybody play that way before.”

An Austin fixture for 15 years, John continues to perform with seminal Austin groups The Echocentrics, Hard Proof, Mudphonic, among others. Always sensitive to the music, he has drawn on his years of experience and study with blues, jazz, and classical music to complement those band’s sounds. However, the time has come for the stylish man you always notice but have never recognized to show his OWN sound.

Taking unforgettable Beatles melodies from his childhood, the hypnotic drone of Fela-Kuti and RL Burnside, the soul of Duane Allman, all over a formidable groove, you can feel that this change is very good.
