With a fresh perspective on the art of sound and the craft of melody, Hugh Mitchell is raising the stakes with his latest batch of songs. Due out this year, his sophomore album, produced by former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer, lends an ear to an orchestral style that captures the gritty, intimate, and soulful writing for which Hugh’s music is known. No Depression magazine said it best,
“Hugh Mitchell walked away from a successful career as a sideman and began writing and recording earthy, honest songs which serve to show off his stunning vocal abilities.”
Raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Hugh has always been a little unconventional. Laid-back, long-haired, his Southern roots undoubtedly come through. But Hugh has come a long way from the clever singer/songwriter that moved to Nashville and put together a rock band. Since his debut album Heartbreak Radio, he has discovered a style and voice all his own. It’s something akin to the craft of songs, it’s something akin to his deep love of sound, and the emotions that just music and instruments can create.
It has taken him some time, but the transition has unwrapped a creative process that works. Conscientious and intentional, he experiments with unique sounds to fulfill the smooth and intimate melodies. It all resonates when you give it a listen… and you should.
